Twenty years ago -more or less, living in Helsinki Finland, I started a weekly column published in both sides of the Atlantic. The name was “Helsinginkatu 10” aka Helsinki Street No10. It was partly my life in the Finnish capital as an immigrant, everyday life in my neighbourhood and a soft crime story in the background, all in English of course. Eventually “Helsinginkatu 10” became four novels (also books) plus a lot of short stories.
Then I moved to Stockholm, Sweden and “Helsinginkatu 10” evaluated into “Stockholm Gatan” aka Stockholm Street. This didn’t work very well. I think it couldn’t work because I never really felt …connected with the neighbourhood I lived back then, so while a wrote and published a few chapters -in my weekly column, nothing serious came out of it.
Then I moved to Växjö and if nothing else, this place is pure stimulation. Moreover, and luckily enough, I live in a cul-de-sac that inspires dramas with a touch of crime as the perfect addition.
And if you are wandering, yes it is the old-retired psychologist always carrying his diabetes but with a new local sidekick.
